Is is possible to plan and prep a wedding with only a couple months left?

Crazy swee

My fiance is away, and we decided to get married when he gets back before he leaves. So im planning this on my own... Just wanted to make sure its possible, and maybe get some tips...

Answer
I was engaged on June 20 and married on August 29. I actually had everything in process with deposits paid and things ordered by the end of 4th of July weekend, so I planned it in about 2 weeks! And that was in 1992 before the Internet was available to help me! You can do this.

1. Guest list -- this will drive what you need in a venue. All the popular venues were taken for mine, but some friends from the other side of town showed me a private garden/park I had not been familiar with that was gorgeous!
http://visitsiouxcity.org/wp-content/uploads/Latham-Park-140x120.jpg
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTQk6lMhUNovE24ry8jvgBiqn7mYbW1SpTAn4aO8mFwzarey_aNyQ

With an outdoor venue, then you do the running around for rentals of tables, chairs, punch bowls, dishes, table covers, etc. etc. With a more ready made venue in a church hall, Masonic lodge, party room, etc. you save on that. I wanted an outdoor wedding, but you may or may not.

2. Dress. I actually was able to get a seamstress who was a great friend, as she had also made my prom/homecoming/etc. dresses in the past, to make the four dresses for me and my bridesmaids and flower girl. My needs were simple and realistic. She got them all done by 3 weeks before the wedding, which was awesome, and I got my dress I wanted, patterned off of Caroline Kennedy's. Another option is to go into the dress shops (not necessarily bridal) and look for white, cream, champagne or other colored formal dresses that you would like. You probably have some time for alterations if they're not extensive. You don't have time to order from the bridal shop. Other women in the wedding can choose their own dress based on a color, and you could pick an easy color like black, pink, or blue. It is possible there are some lovely summer dresses on sale right about now.

3. Men's clothes -- they can wear their own suits, or if it's less formal, they can all wear blue dress shirts, khaki trousers, and matching ties.

4. Food -- I kept it simple and had everything from the supermarket. Seriously. We had a 1:30 pm wedding and cake reception, and also had trays of meats, cheeses, fruit salads in a carved out watermelon, punch, water, coffee, tea and sodas. The supermarket bakery made a beautiful marble cake and delivered freshly made sandwich buns, the deli department put the trays together and made us a specialty condiment for the sandwiches, and delivered the nicely carved fruit salads. I got colored Chinet plates and clear disposable silverware from the party store, as well as colored table covers. If I had it to do over, I would have picked up a hodge podge of china/stoneware plates from the thrift stores, and let guests take their plates home as a favor. I also would have stepped up and gotten the license for beer, wine and a signature cocktail for the afternoon wedding. Like any party, also, you can never have enough ice.

5. Music -- I had a brass quintet from the college for the ceremony and a jazz pianist (we rented a nice keyboard from the music store) for the afternoon garden reception. You might think about an afternoon reception or at any rate skipping the dancing. However, in today's age of playlists, maybe a friend could set up playlists and speakers for both ceremony and reception music. A new iPod costs less than a DJ.

I think that's it. That's the wedding I put together in about six weeks, all told. I was basically done by the end, so that I had time to visit my grandparents in Florida, who were unable to attend (though I still think their reason for not attending is kind of lame). With such a quick wedding, I missed having my out of town cousins and some others there, but it was still a completely lovely afternoon. Having it in such an amazing garden space meant I didn't need any flowers or decor other than bouquets and boutineres, so that was something. With all the brilliant color around us, I went for all-white bouquets of white roses and daisies. I even went without table centerpieces, because it was such a paradise to spend the afternoon in.

Officiant: luckily the pastor who had confirmed me and was a family friend was available. I am not sure what my alternative would have been. Just made calls I guess.

How do you make an awesome chocolate milkshake?

Lovin M

I know the general recipe is chocolate syrup, chocolate ice cream, and milk, but are there any homemade recipes or old school recipes or those type of recipes that are like what grandma used to make? Something to add to the shake to make it even more better? Come on people help me out here.

Answer
A chocolate milkshake recipe is a delicious treat. And, with some of the recipes on this page, it can be a non-fattening treat!

Trivia: Ray Kroc of McDonalds fame started his career selling five-unit milkshake machines to restaurants.

In my younger life, I worked in restaurants and served up many a chocolate milkshake. The commercial milkshake makers are wonderful but somewhat extravagant for home use. However, if you make a lot of shakes, it would be a good investment. Check out the Waring PDM1 Drink Mixer . Naturally, you can use it for making smoothies, shakes, sodas, cocktails, eggnog and more.

Home users who do not make a great many drinks would be happy with the more economical Hamilton Beach 65250 Classic DrinkMaster Drink Mixer. It's excellent value for a low price.

Just a little tip from one who found out the hard way: when using a drink mixer, be sure the blades have come to a full stop before trying to remove the drink. Otherwise, be prepared to wash your face, hair and shirt!

As always, I suggest you do yourself a big favor and use the best quality chocolate you can find or afford. It really does make a difference. You can order outstanding, premier cocoa, chocolate chips and baking chocolates for chocolate milkshake recipe at ChocolateSource.

Chocolate Milkshake Recipe #1 : Basic Shake
1/4 cup chocolate syrup, commercial or use the chocolate syrup recipe on this web site
2 scoops vanilla or chocolate ice cream
1 cup milk

Add syrup, ice cream and milk to drink mixer and mix until no lumps remain.

Add more ice cream if a thicker chocolate milkshake recipe is desired. Add more milk if you want a thinner drink.

Don't be afraid to experiment. You can add interesting ingredients such as ripe bananas, different flavors of ice cream, frozen yoghurt or gelato, nuts, strawberries, coconut, peanut butter, peppermint extract, chocolate milk, malt, maraschino cherries, Oreo cookies, syrup or juice from canned fruit, etc.

Chocolate Milkshake Recipe #2 : Vegan, Low Fat
1 1/2 frozen bananas
3 tbsp. powdered cocoa
1 cup nonfat soymilk
Maple syrup or other sweetener

Add all ingredients to a drink mixer and mix until blended. Taste, adding additional sweetener or milk if desired.

Chocolate Milkshake Recipe #3 : Banana and Mocha
1/4 cup chocolate syrup, commercial or use the chocolate syrup recipe on this web site
2 scoops vanilla or chocolate ice cream
1 cup milk

1 banana
1/2 tsp expresso mix, OR 1/4 cup strong coffee, cold

Cut banana into chunks. Put all ingredients of your chocolate milkshake recipe into a drink mixer and mix until smooth.

Chocolate Milkshake Recipe #4 : Without Ice Cream
2 cups milk (use skim milk if reducing fat or calories)
1/8 cup baking cocoa powder OR 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1/2 cup sugar OR sugar substitute to taste
1/8 cup non-dairy powdered coffee creamer
1 teaspoon vanilla extract or peppermint extract
12 large ice cubes

Put all ingredients in a blender. Mix until smooth and ice is gone.

Tip: Substitute 1 1/2 cups plain or vanilla yoghurt for the milk. This produces a somewhat different but very tasty chocolate milkshake recipe.

What is the difference between regular yogurt and Activia Yogurt? Also, how does yogurt regulate our digestive system? Yogurt is just milk, how does it help our body more than milk?
Also, is Activa pasteurized or unpasteurized?

Answer
yogurt has bacteria in it that milk doesn't have. these bacteria help improve digestion. Activia has more of these bacteria than other yogurts, which makes it better for digestion.

Where do you get edible lavender for honey lavender ice cream?

I wanted to try to make honey lavender ice cream, but don't know where to get edible lavender.

Does anyone know, and have a recipe (I don't have an ice cream maker, is there a recipe that doesn't use one?)?
@thejanith: Lavender jelly sounds interesting, could I get the recipe?

Answer
Don't know if you can make "real" ice cream without and ice cream maker. You could use a blender for more of a slush or smoothie. I have lavender growing in my yard, and don't use garden chemicals so it's organic. Would suggest you go to a health food store, here in CA we have Whole Foods Market, but most communities have health food stores. Tell them you want organic lavender for cooking. Or use Lavender oil that does not say not for internal use. Essential oils are very strong so be careful. Add lavender extract or oil, to suit your taste buds, very little at a time. Start with a recipe from the internet for honey vanilla and go from there.

Here's One: this one has eggs not all vanilla ice cream base needs eggs a matter of choice

Ingredients

* 2 cups milk
* 1 (7 inch) vanilla bean, split lengthwise
* 6 egg yolks
* 1 cup packed brown sugar
* 3 tablespoons honey
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 2 cups heavy cream

Or Here's a recipe using Lavender flowers. Many Gadening stores sell the plants or you can order or buy lavender flowers online or locally

Ingredients

* 2 cups heavy cream
* 1 cup half-and-half
* 2/3 cup mild honey
* 2 tablespoons dried edible lavender flowers*
* 2 large eggs
* 1/8 teaspoon salt

I don't care if it is a hand crank or machine, but i want the most frugal (<$100) purchase of a reliable ice cream machine. I want a couple quarts (3-5) each time.

Answer
It is not available right now, but will be on July 5. It can make up to six quarts of ice cream each time. Here are some of the customer reviews, might help you decide:

Frosty, September 10, 2008
By Curtis G. Mclamb "Dixie Boy" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews

This ice cream maker is well made for the price and it is much quieter than my older unit with the plastic ice bucket. The ice cream is more firm when it is done than with some of the other makers I have used. It makes enough ice cream for the neighborhood at one time. I also like having the option to use either the electric motor or the hand crank.

Ice Cream Freezer, January 6, 2009
By Sharron S. Metzger - See all my reviews

Ordered this ice cream freezer from Amazon.com a week before Christmas. It was delivered to my house in time for the big day. Ice Cream Freezer was the biggest hit. We made several batches of ice cream during the holidays and everyone had a great time eating and making the wonderful dessert. The kids got a big kick out of cranking and helping to make this treat. Then the motor kicked in and finished the job. What a great idea to help keep everyone happy and excited to eat ice cream.

Works Slicker than Snot on a door knob!!, June 28, 2009
By GRUMPYOLDMAN46 "Grumpyoldman46" (NE Ohio) - See all my reviews
I bought this item on 5/28/2009, Read all the instructions, few days later I tried it out, only thing was I did not have enough ice to fill it all the way up, but it worked pretty good for a first time.
The next weekend I bought a big bag of ice and more half& half & whipping cream and made up a big batch of butter pecan ice cream. Everybody raved at how rich& creamy it was and so delicious!!! I make ice cream about every 2 weeks now takes about 20-25 min. once its all in the maker.

Good reviews, out of the six current opinions for the product. You can read more about this product (as well as the rest of the reviews) at the link I provided below:

Why does my ice cream always turn out like frozen whipped cream?

Bryce B

My ice cream always turns out fluffy and whipped in my ice cream maker. It doesn't freeze well and doesn't have a dense texture to it. I am using an electric ice cream maker. Has anyone else run into this problem or does someone know how to fix it?
I am using an electric ice cream maker, with 1 quart of capacity. I am using 2 cups heavy cream and 1 cup whole milk. The ingredients are think enough, but how do I prevent it from whipping?

Answer
It sounds to me like too much air is being whipped into the ice cream or you are using ingredients without an appropriate cream content. The heavier your milk, the heavier the ice cream. skim milk, 2 percent, etc. will make light ice cream. You want Heavy whipping cream, Evaporated milk or whole milk as the base. Also, I have heard a friend complain that the pre packaged ice cream "mixes" that she has used in her electric ice cream maker really sucked. She thought it was not ice creamy like at all and in fact tasted like sweetened air. Try some old fashioned recipes like in a good OLD cook book, or look up some old fashioned recipes on the internet.

Here are some tips:

Hints for Making Better Ice Cream
The consistency of ice cream may vary from batch to batch. Several factors that will affect the firmness or consistency of ice cream are the recipe used, how hot or cool the day is, size of ice, temperature of the salt water, and temperature of the mixture before it is churned.

Too Soft - If after 20 minutes of steady cranking on manual models you feel no drag or tightening, or if motor on electric model continues to run freely after 30 minutes, then the salt water is not cold enough, therefore, the ice cream is not hardening. You should add another 3 ounces of table salt or 5 ounces of rock salt. This will begin to reduce the saltwater temperature and cause the ice cream to harden. As the ice melts, you may have to continue to add ice and salt until the ice cream is the consistency of mush.

Too Grainy, Icy or Hard - If the cranking mechanism becomes too hard to turn in less than 20 minutes on manual models, or if motor stalls in less than 20 minutes on electric models, resulting in coarse or an inconsistent texture of ice cream, the saltwater became too cold too fast. In this case, you used too much salt and the ice cream froze too fast on the edge of the can, and/or you did not used crushed ice.

Recipe Hint - Preparing the ice cream mixture the day before makes smoother ice cream and increases the yield.

Recipe:
Old-Fashioned Homemade Ice Cream
6 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
13-ounce can evaporated milk (1-1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons)
1 gallon whole milk
chipped ice
rock salt
In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar gradually, stirring constantly. Add salt, vanilla and canned milk. Add about a pint of the fresh milk and mix.

Pour mixture into ice cream freezer can. Add enough of the remainder of the milk to fill can to the middle of the top board of dasher. (If the freezer can has a "fill" line on it, fill no higher than that line.)

Assemble the ice cream freezer. Add alternating layers of chipped ice and rock salt to barrel around freezer can. Crank freezer until ice cream begins to freeze (cranking will become harder as ice cream freezes), adding more ice and salt, as needed. When handle becomes difficult-to-impossible to turn, remove turning mechanism, and carefully remove top from freezer can; remove dasher. Replace top. Cover can with more ice and salt. Cover ice with an old towel, allowing ice cream to "cure" for at least 1 hour. If yours is an electric freezer, follow manufacturer's directions, but the curing step is essential.

Makes about 5 quarts of ice cream.

Good luck!

I need a diet plan that tells me exactly what to eat!?

FF_XII_Chi

I'm not looking for a diet plan to lose weight, just one that can get me back on track to eating healthy and keeping myself away from fast food. I need an app or something that tells me exactly what to eat for meals and snacks, or an app that will tell me what is healthy to eat and what isn't. Any help?

Answer
A good diet/exercise plan would be:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a big pot of it on weekends and scoop out 1/2 cup each morning and nuke it for a minute. Add low fat milk or yogurt, banana, walnuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts and yogurt w/fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit: banana, orange, apple, kiwi, grapes, peach, nectarine, cherries, pineapple. No chips and nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, green or red peppers, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Foods to avoid: junk food, fast foods, pastries, desserts, sugar, salty foods, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fat/grease (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza, chips, fries), pasta, potatoes, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream, soda, chips. And of course no tobacco or alcohol in any form. Both of those add wrinkles and destroy your brain. No oil except olive and mac nut. Coffee also rots your brain.

To keep your skin clear, drink water. Veg. juice is good too. But not canned juice (too much sugar.)

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming, rowing, jump rope, play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer..sit ups, push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, crunches, jumping jacks...

If you lack energy to exercise, take Super B complex.
To lose weight, try an appetite suppressant.

I tried dying my hair a deep red, sort of like Arianna Grande's, but it turned out really copper-y. I don't want it to be red-violet but I hate this copper. I'd like a happy medium. How can I fix it?

Answer
I strongly recommend getting 'ICE CREAM NOURISHING COLOR MASK' In cherry red.
Works wonders for your hair.

It's just like a conditioner. You apply it after shampooing and leaving it on for 15 minutes. When you wash it out, your hair will have a cherry red tint OR color ( depending how dark your hair is )
Try a small strand of your hair first and see if you like the shade.

I've used this product on bleached hair and it gave me fire truck red hair. I loved it.
Try it out!

I have a class field trip to Kings Dominion in whcih i already paid for everything except food and all the other extra stuff like games. I was just wondering how much money I should bring for the games and enough for food. Im 12 so I dont eat that much.

I want money for things like stuff animals, ice cream, games, funell cakes and things like that.
Thanks!

Answer
You'll need to take into consideration that food and drinks in amusement parks are overpriced. With that said, expect to pay at least $10 for a meal, minus a drink. Expect to pay at least a $3 for a fountain drink, around $4-$5 for a bottled drink from a vending machine. Snacks can range from $5-$8 depending on what you're getting. And souvenirs can range anywhere from a few dollars to hundreds, depending on what you want.

Personally I would bring at least about $50. That'll at least cover you for food and drinks. If you're determined to buy souvenirs, I'd probably bring about another $25-$50, so maybe at least $75-$100 total, that way you're covered.

Good luck to you and your friend, i hope she feels better soon!
